Like a mirror, Nach’s powerful, nervous body tells us of its inner journeys and calls up the ghosts and ancestors that inhabit it. She passes through several emotional and physical states. Radicalness, physicality, expressiveness, energy: Beloved Shadows throws an uppercut that sends the eye reeling. First the back and its muscular tensions, with broad movements quickly broken and sweeping gestures immediately interrupted...this is interiorised krump, hip-hop robbed of its conventional moves. And then there are the images: projected onto her androgynous body and in our imagination. And the booming voice that closes the show: “It’s not easy to be alone”. Tackling themes of pleasure and exhilaration, Nach perfects a language crafted from all the identities within her, the embodiment of a being made of desire and passion. Someone who tells it like it is.
