The artist Adeline Rosenstein grew up in Geneva, studied in Jerusalem and Berlin, and now works in Brussels. Her historical documentary shows resonate with key contemporary issues. In Laboratoire Poison 2, she digs into our collective history, in particular the contrasting attitudes of former left-wing resistance fighters with respect to the struggle for freedom and independence in three former colonies: Algeria, Congo and Mozambique. Keeping silent about torture and the risk of dishonour weigh on the witnesses both politically and personally. The “work in progress” presented at the Festival de Marseille focuses on memories of the Algerian War. Here, the theatre of memory echoes current events. “How can people who claim to be anti-racist behave like racists? How can anti-colonialists react in a colonialist way?
