Her performances include It's Not Over Until the Fat Phat Lady Sings (presented in South Africa, France, Belgium and Switzerland), Is This Africa? Put A Cross On The Appropriate Woman, Lest We Forget and Ziyakhipha... come dance with us which won the Standard Bank Young Artist Award and the Gauteng MEC Award in 2006.
From 2011 to 2013, Hlengiwe Lushaba collaborated with other artists. Cabaret with Via Katlehong was performed at the Théâtre National de Chaillot in Paris. What is Black Music Anyway / Self Portraits for MOMA in New York was her first collaboration with Faustin Linyekula who also invited the guitarist Flamme Kapaya to take part. Trapped, a collaboration with Princess Mhlongo, was presented at the National Arts Festival in South Africa and the Salzburg Festival. In 2013, Highway to Heaven / Paradise Road, a coproduction with Studios Kabako, involved Sdu Majola and two artists from Kisangani, including Franck Moka. The show was presented in Congo, in South Africa and in Germany (Dresden, Hamburg, Dusseldorf) as part of the Dance Dialogues Africa programme.
As an actor and singer, Hlengiwe Lushaba takes part in many South African productions for stage, TV and cinema. Hlengiwe Lushaba is co-founder of The Plat4orm, an alternative cultural space in Johannesburg.
