Seppe Baeyens’ quest for social inclusiveness and exploration of ephemeral communities are not just about intergenerational and intercultural audience participation; they lie at the very heart of his creative process. Birds brings together performers, audience members, participants and casual passers-by who are invited to stop and watch, then enter the dance irrespective of their age, their body and their gender. From these interactions a different choreography emerges each time, expressed in a precise, open, accessible language that goes beyond all forms of divisiveness.
