DeLaVallet Bidiefono

DeLaVallet Bidiefono's choreographic research is informed by both traditional cultures and contemporary influences. An adventurer exploring all aspects of movement, he also embraces interdisciplinary hybridisations.

Born in 1980 in Pointe-Noire, in a neighborhood where the term "contemporary art" doesn't exist, DeLaVallet began his dance career in 2001 at choreographic research workshops held at the French Cultural Centre in Brazzaville, where he founded the Baninga company in 2005.

His career took a major turn when he met David Bobée, David Lescot and Dieudonné Niangouna, who gave him the opportunity to present his piece Au-delà at the Avignon Festival in 2013. The show has been performed almost 60 times across Europe and Africa, establishing him as one of the most recognised choreographers in Africa and on the broader contemporary dance scene.

In 2017, DeLaVallet Bidiefono created Monstres / On ne danse pas pour rien for 8 dancers, 1 performer and 3 musicians on stage at the Francophonies en Limousin, which toured in France and Europe.

His show Utopia / Les Sauvages premiered in 2022 at the Trident – Scène Nationale de Cherbourg.
