Bintou Dembélé’s entire world is encapsulated in G.R.O.O.V.E.: vocals, pop rock guitar, images and street dance, reinvented with each new set. Guided by the twelve dancers, Célia Kameni’s unbelievable voice and Charles Amblard’s heart-rending guitar, the audience is invited to take part in a collective journey “celebrating ways of seeing, gestures and rhythms”.
For this performance, Bintou Dembélé reappropriates the libretto by Jean-Philippe Rameau which thrilled audiences in Les Indes galantes in 2019. It’s like a trail of gunpowder connecting performers and audience, firing them with a vital passion and an irrepressible desire to share their own approach to dance where the senses reign supreme. The artist, a pioneer of hip-hop in France, invites us to share in a ritual “celebrating ourselves, other people, and the way we relate to one another”.
