When he read some notes left behind by his grandfather, Belgian writer Stefan Hertmans understood that the story of his life was well worth telling: a poor childhood in Ghent before 1900, the horror of the trenches in the Great War, his love for a woman who died young, and the rest of his life absorbed in silent painting. After the success of La Chambre d’Isabella, which told the story of his own family, Jan Lauwers now transposes Stefan Hertmans' masterpiece into other artistic forms. Combining music, installation, words and dance, the artist, who has used innovative theatrical language many times before, has brought together a unique group of performers including the brilliant actress Viviane De Muyinck. Expect a dazzling show.
