Compagnie Canicule

The young company Canicule is like a three-headed dog: a Cerberus brimming with projects and ideas. Clémentine Colpin, Pauline Desmarets and Olivia Smets engage with a range of topical issues, creating fictions for the world of tomorrow. Canicule combines pop culture with cultural references and creates a theatrical style that is colourful yet nuanced, pulls no punches, and is able to make us laugh and cry. By sticking its neck out and shrugging off convention, it delivers an experience that makes us feel better about ourselves.

The company first created Save The Date, a tragi-comic wedding celebration freely adapted from Chekhov, and then Ublo, a poetic fable about autism for young audiences, and Métagore, a drive-in performance on the role of women in Booba’s rap. Métagore Majeure, an XXL version of Métagore, tours Belgium and France in the spring and summer of 2022.

The company is also preparing two new creations: a project on the figure of Donald Trump and the influence of the USA on our imagination, for which the first research residency took place at the BAMP in February and which will be performed in the open air, continuing the explorations begun with Métagore Majeure; and Annette, a project on the unique rebellious life of a 72-year-old woman, an ode to freedom, anti-conformism and dance as a means of escape. The project will premiere in autumn 2023 at the Rideau and the Théâtre Jean Vilar, and is supported by l’Atelier 210 and Les Tanneurs.
