Tamer El Said

Considered one of the most promising artists in independent Egyptian cinema, Tamer El Said lives between Berlin and Cairo. He studied filmmaking and journalism and went on to make many documentaries and short films that received several international and local awards.

Tamer founded Zero Production in 2007 to produce independent films. He is also a founder of Cimatheque - Alternative Film Centre in Egypt, a multi-purpose space that provides facilities, training and programing for the independent filmmaking community. His first feature length film, In the Last Days of the City, was premiered in the Berlinale 2016 where it received the Caligari Film Prize. The film has been invited to over 180 festivals worldwide receiving more than 15 international awards.

In 2020, He made a short film titled One Sunny Day in April as part of the project "4 Walls in Berlin: 30 films at a distance". His recent short As You Lay in Your Grave was also released in October 2020 as part of the project Cinetracts’ 20. The project invited 20 filmmakers from around the world to make 20 short films in response to the current socio-political zeitgeist.

El Said also has mentored workshops, related to his practice as a filmmaker, in many international film and art spaces including, among others, Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) in London. School of the Art Institute in Chicago (SAIC) and Silent Green in Berlin.
