The Belfast Ensemble
The Belfast Ensemble is an artists’ collective that is constantly evolving. A key player in the cultural life of the Northern Irish capital, the Ensemble offers musicals and operas combining contemporary music, video and installations.
Their recent productions include the award-winning opera ABOMINATION, PROPAGANDA, MASS and THE MUSICIAN.
Conor Mitchell
A composer, a librettist and a director of opera and musicals, Conor Mitchell blends contemporary music and visual arts and invites the audience to explore social and political subjects.
He is the only non-American to have won the Best Music award at the New York Musical Theater Festival. Known for his symphonic and operatic works alike, he has recently taken part in numerous festivals across Europe.
As artistic director of the Belfast Ensemble, he recently created a new opera titled The Headless Soldier with playwright Mark Ravenhill and is currently working on a new symphonic piece featuring the music of Pussy Riot.
