On Saturday, May 7, 2022, I was invited to celebrate the memory of a certain Varian Frye. People had come from Poland, Germany, France and the surrounding area to talk about this man who is not even from Marseille! I learned that he had arrived from the United States in 1940 to help artists (like Ief Spincemaille!) and writers threatened by the Nazi regime. Thousands of people were saved here in Marseille thanks to him. I walked through the city in his footsteps, escorted by teachers, students, boxers, a musician and even ladies on stilts. After such an expedition, I fell asleep at the foot of a tree, lulled by the stories of the neighborhood children.
