Charismatic performer Cherish Menzo gives herself up body and soul to the piece titled Sorry, But I Feel Slighty Disidentified. She pulls no punches and dances with incredible power and intensity. In a series of tableaux, the Dutch dancer with Surinamese parentage speaks of herself and of all of us, of the private and the universal, of the representation of bodies and the way we look at them. Sometimes covered with traditional fabrics, sometimes wearing only a corset, she deals with femininity, masculinity, exoticism and eroticism in ordinary situations we can all identify with. Her words, costumes and postures say a lot about the stereotypes that inhabit our unconscious minds… From images to metaphors and from rhythmic movements to silent pauses, the solo constructs and deconstructs our gaze and reveals our prejudices about race, gender, social status and different cultures.
