Le Crime des anges

Bania Mejbar

With Bania Mejbar

The Festival de Marseille and L'Alhambra present the first feature-length film by Bania Medjbar, a sensitive and politically engaged filmmaker who tells the story of the ordinary people of Marseille like no one else.

In Bania Medjbar’s films (Des enfants dans les arbres, Quand le vent tisse les fleurs), Marseille becomes the setting for compelling stories that are profoundly human and sometimes tragic. Her stories are informed by reality, and the people we see on screen powerfully embody what Marseille is today. In this new film, her first feature-length work, we follow the fortunes of Akim, a young man in his early twenties who doesn’t want to work at the rubbish dump as his father did and as his best friend Nono still does. Joining forces with delinquents from his estate, he embezzles some money and unwittingly involves his sister Nadia in the problems that follow. Akim is ordered to pay the money back, and decides to ask the local mafia to help him out…
