(LA)HORDE

(LA)HORDE is a group of three artists formed in 2013 who have been joint directors of the Ballet National de Marseille since 2019: Marine Brutti, Jonathan Debrouwer and Arthur Harel. (LA)HORDE explores the political dimension of dance and focuses on popular choreographic forms, from raves to folk dancing and jumpstyle.

Their exploration of new on-line dynamics relating to the circulation and representation of dance and the body has led them to develop the concept of “post-internet dance”. Working with a variety of media, (LA)HORDE explores the almost endless serendipity of this new territory and looks at the spirit of revolt that drives the communities with which the collective works in a non-hierarchical way.

Room With A View, created with the artist RONE in 2020, is their first piece with the National Ballet of Marseille, which is currently home to twenty-three dancers of fourteen nationalities. A special version of the show was presented on the rooftops of the National Ballet as the closing event of the 2021 Marseille Festival.

In 2021, they also invited four committed choreographers to take part in a mixed programme with the National Ballet of Marseille – Lucinda Childs, Tânia Carvalho, Lasseindra Ninja and Oona Doherty –, and in 2022 presented Roommates, a programme of six pieces by François Chaignaud and Cecilia Bengolea, Peeping Tom, Claude Brumachon, Lucinda Childs and (LA)HORDE, as well as a danced exhibition, We Should Have Never Walked on the Moon, blending the realm of action films with that of avant-garde choreography.

First performed in 2023, Age of Content is their new choreographic piece with the National Ballet of Marseille.
